1. Daily cleanse
Rinse the lunch box after each use with hot water and a dash of washing-up liquid. Use a sponge or brush to remove food residues, especially in corners and edges.
2. Thorough cleaning
Give the lunch box an additional clean at least once a week. Soak it in hot water with a dash of white vinegar or a tablespoon of baking soda. This neutralises odours and removes grease stains.
3. Proper drying
Dry the lunch box thoroughly or leave it out in the open to dry. Make sure the box is completely dry to avoid the creation of odours or even mould.
4. Is your lunch box dishwasher-proof?
Some lunch boxes can go into the dishwasher while others cannot. Heat and steam may deform the plastic and the closure. Be sure to check this first on the bottom or on the packaging.
5. Tip for a fresh smell
Every now and again, place an open tea bag or some baking soda in a closed (empty) lunch box overnight to neutralise any odours.
